On-Site Calibration
Columbus Audiometer Calibration at Your Facility
Central Ohio employers can skip the shipping box. Foster sends a technician from Blue Ash to calibrate audiometers on site to ANSI S3.6 and to check booth noise levels to ANSI S3.1 in the same visit.
Central Ohio employers we calibrate for
Columbus sits in the middle of some of the state's heaviest industrial growth. Automotive work around Marysville and East Liberty, large semiconductor construction projects in Licking County, the warehouse and logistics corridor near Rickenbacker, and big fulfillment buildings across the region all bring workers into noise. Where noise exposure reaches the OSHA action level, a hearing conservation program follows, and that program rests on audiometers that are current.
Construction contractors are part of that picture too. Large sites carry their own safety staff and testing programs, and those need documented calibrations just like a permanent plant. A temporary job site is rarely quiet, so a booth or trailer used for testing is worth a sound level check, which we do at the same time.
What happens when you book
Tell us how many audiometers you have and where they sit. The technician leaves our location at 6941 Cornell Road, Suite B, Blue Ash, Ohio 45242 and drives to you with the reference equipment. We calibrate each unit where it is used, so there is no packing, no shipping risk, and no lost testing days.
Jeff Schroeder performs the work. You can reach him through the office line at 513-891-0868.
The three layers of audiometer checking
OSHA 29 CFR 1910.95(h) and Appendix E describe how audiometers are kept reliable.
- Before each day's use, the employer runs a functional check.
- At least yearly, an acoustic calibration check confirms the output of the instrument. A deviation of 15 dB or more triggers an exhaustive calibration.
- At least every two years, an exhaustive calibration covers the full set of ANSI S3.6 measurements.

Checking the booth without a second appointment
A booth that has gotten louder will push thresholds worse and no calibration of the audiometer can fix that. We measure booth sound levels to ANSI S3.1 while we are on site. The readings are recorded in the Room Acoustics Level Test section of the audiometer certificate.
Where we work in the Columbus area
Our central Ohio coverage includes Franklin, Delaware, Union, Madison, Licking, Fairfield, Pickaway, Fayette, and Ross counties. Common stops are Dublin, Hilliard, Grove City, Groveport, Obetz, Gahanna, Westerville, Marysville, East Liberty, New Albany, Newark, and Lancaster. For a location beyond these, call and we will work out the visit.
What else we can calibrate during the visit
A Columbus clinic or plant usually has more than one instrument coming due. We can include these on the same trip.
- Spirometers and 3 L syringes, including the syringe leak check.
- Breath alcohol testers. We calibrate them. Foster does not sell or conduct employee drug or alcohol testing.
- Vision testers and EKG machines.
Scheduling alongside mobile hearing testing
Foster also runs mobile hearing testing in central Ohio. When both are on the calendar, we line them up so the audiometer is calibrated immediately before the testing day. Our Columbus hearing testing page covers the testing side.
Mail-in option and loaners
You can also ship an audiometer to our Cincinnati-area bench. If a unit needs significant repair, a free loaner keeps your program on schedule. Every unit comes back with a certificate calibrated to ANSI S3.6.
Common questions
Does Foster travel to Columbus for calibration?
Yes. The technician drives from Blue Ash and calibrates on site at your facility.
Can you handle a large fleet across several buildings?
Yes. We can plan the visit around your floor plan so each audiometer is calibrated where it lives.
Will you check the booth too?
Yes. Booth sound levels are measured to ANSI S3.1 and recorded as the Room Acoustics Level Test section on the cert.
How is the annual check different from the exhaustive calibration?
The annual check is an acoustic verification of output. The exhaustive calibration, due at least every two years, covers the complete set of ANSI S3.6 measurements.
Do you calibrate other makes of audiometer?
Yes. Most major brands are covered, whether or not Foster sold the unit.
What is the alternative to an on-site visit?
Mail-in calibration to our Cincinnati-area facility, with free loaners available for extensive repairs.
