On-Site Calibration

Audiometer Calibration in Detroit, Delivered to Your Plant

Detroit is about four hours north of our Blue Ash shop. We drive up with the calibration equipment, check each audiometer against ANSI S3.6 at your site, and measure the booth to ANSI S3.1 on the same visit.

Noise is the daily work in metro Detroit

Few regions put more people near stamping presses, weld lines, and assembly conveyors than southeast Michigan. Vehicle assembly plants anchor the economy, and the tier-1 and tier-2 suppliers around them run press shops, machining cells, injection molding, and fastener lines on tight schedules. Downriver, steel finishing and chemical operations add their own sources of sustained noise.

Employers across that supply chain keep audiometric testing programs, and the audiometers behind those programs need calibration records that hold up when a reviewer opens the file.

How we plan a Detroit run

The technician leaves 6941 Cornell Road, Suite B, Blue Ash, Ohio 45242 and takes I-75 north for roughly four hours. We schedule ahead and call before we leave. If you have several sites in the metro, tell us up front and we will line them up in one stretch so the drive is spent once.

The office line is 513-891-0868.

Plants in the Downriver area, along the Detroit River south of the city, are a natural pairing with Taylor and Romulus stops, so we try to sequence them together.

The standards we calibrate against

OSHA 29 CFR 1910.95(h) calls for audiometers that meet ANSI S3.6. Michigan has its own state plan, but compliance-driven hearing conservation programs in the state rely on the same ANSI specification for the instrument. We calibrate to it at three levels.

  • Output levels at each test frequency, checked against a reference.
  • Frequency accuracy and harmonic distortion.
  • Attenuator linearity across the range of the dial.

Annual checks and the two-year exhaustive

An acoustic calibration check is due at least once a year. An exhaustive calibration is due at least every two years, or sooner if the annual check finds a deviation of 15 dB or more. Your own staff does the daily functional check. We keep track of the dates and send a reminder before the next one so a lapse does not sneak up on a plant that runs three shifts.

Booth sound levels on the same visit

A booth next to a loud line can fail on ambient noise even when the audiometer itself is fine. We measure the levels inside the booth to ANSI S3.1 and report them as the Room Acoustics Level Test section on the audiometer certificate. You get one record that covers the instrument and the room.

More instruments for the same trip

If your clinic holds other calibrated equipment, a single trip can clear several due dates.

  • Spirometers and their 3 L syringes.
  • Breath alcohol testers. We calibrate them and train technicians. Foster does not sell or perform drug or alcohol testing.
  • Vision testers.
  • EKG machines.

Wayne, Oakland, Macomb, and beyond

We serve Wayne, Oakland, Macomb, Washtenaw, Monroe, Livingston, and St. Clair counties. Common stops include Warren, Sterling Heights, Dearborn, Livonia, Taylor, Romulus, Wyandotte, Southfield, Troy, Auburn Hills, Pontiac, and Ann Arbor. Tell us where your clinic sits and we will confirm that it fits the route.

Single unit or long repair

If you have one audiometer, mailing it to our Cincinnati-area bench is a practical option and avoids planning around the drive. A free loaner is available when an instrument needs a longer repair. You can also read about our general hearing testing service if your program uses mobile clinics.

Common questions

Do you serve suppliers as well as assembly plants?

Yes. Any employer, clinic, or school in the Detroit region with an audiometer can book us.

Does Michigan use a different audiometer standard?

The instrument specification is ANSI S3.6 regardless. We calibrate to that standard and tie it to the OSHA 1910.95(h) requirements.

Can you calibrate several audiometers in one visit?

Yes. A fleet at one site is the most efficient use of the trip.

What does the booth check measure?

Sound levels inside the booth to ANSI S3.1, reported as the Room Acoustics Level Test section of the certificate.

Can the other clinic equipment be calibrated that day?

Yes. Spirometers, 3 L syringes, breath alcohol testers, vision testers, and EKG machines can ride along.

Is a loaner available?

Yes. A free loaner covers you during extensive repairs.
