On-Site Calibration

Indianapolis On-Site Audiometer Calibration

Foster travels from Blue Ash to Indianapolis employers for ANSI S3.6 audiometer calibration at the point of use. We check the booth to ANSI S3.1 in the same stop and can service other instruments while we are there.

What the Indianapolis metro asks of an audiometer

Indianapolis employers span transmissions and aerospace propulsion, pharmaceutical production, automotive suppliers, and one of the country's busiest air cargo hubs. Those workplaces carry real noise exposure. A hearing conservation program in any of them depends on audiometer readings that can be trusted, and that trust comes from a current calibration.

Contract manufacturers and suppliers to the larger names face the same records review as the plants they supply, often with fewer staff to manage the paperwork.

Hospitals and research labs around the city also run audiometers for staff screening and patient care. A booth in a clinic basement and a portable unit on a plant floor have different problems, and we treat them differently on the visit.

What 1910.95 and ANSI S3.6 add up to

Under 29 CFR 1910.95(h), audiometric tests must be run on an audiometer that meets ANSI S3.6. In practice, that means three recurring tasks.

  • Employer functional check before each day's use.
  • Acoustic calibration check at least once a year. A deviation of 15 dB or more calls for an exhaustive calibration.
  • Exhaustive calibration at least once every two years.

From Blue Ash to your door

The technician starts at 6941 Cornell Road, Suite B, Blue Ash, Ohio 45242. We plan Indianapolis work as a full day trip so the visit is not rushed, and we can fit several audiometers, booths, and other instruments into it. Jeff Schroeder is the technician and the contact. The office line is 513-891-0868.

Booth sound levels in the same pass

Booth noise is part of an accurate audiogram. We measure the sound levels inside your booth to ANSI S3.1, and the results are reported in the Room Acoustics Level Test section on your audiometer certificate. If the readings are high, you learn that before the next round of audiograms, not after. A noisy booth is often traced to a worn door seal, a loud air handler, or equipment placed on the other side of a thin wall, and those are fixable.

Hamilton County and beyond

Our Indianapolis service area covers Marion, Hamilton, Hendricks, Hancock, Johnson, Shelby, Boone, and Decatur counties. Typical stops are Speedway, Beech Grove, Carmel, Fishers, Noblesville, Westfield, Plainfield, Avon, Brownsburg, Greenfield, Franklin, and Anderson. If your plant is farther out, such as near Lafayette, call and we will see whether it fits a route.

Other instruments we can handle on that trip

A day trip is the right time to clear several due dates at once.

  • Spirometers and 3 L syringes.
  • Breath alcohol testers, which we calibrate while we train technicians. Foster does not sell or perform drug or alcohol testing.
  • Vision testers.
  • EKG machines.

Combine with a hearing testing visit

If you already want mobile audiograms, calibration the same day makes sure the instrument was verified immediately before testing began. Our Indianapolis hearing testing page describes those visits.

Shipping instead, and free loaners

A single unit is easy to mail to our Cincinnati-area bench, and some customers pair a mail-in unit with an on-site visit for the rest of the fleet. Free loaner audiometers are available when an extensive repair is needed. The certificate that comes back is calibrated to ANSI S3.6 and supports your OSHA records.

Common questions

Is Indianapolis too far for an on-site visit?

No. We plan it as a full day trip and can calibrate multiple instruments in that time.

What documentation do I get?

A certificate calibrated to ANSI S3.6, with a Room Acoustics Level Test section if we checked your booth, and a reminder before the next due date.

Does the annual check replace the daily check?

No. Your staff still runs a functional check before each day's use. The annual and two-year calibrations are separate.

Can you service my spirometer and syringe too?

Yes. Spirometers and 3 L syringes can be calibrated on the same trip.

Do you work on multiple brands of audiometer?

Yes. We calibrate most major brands, not only equipment sold by Foster.

Can I mail the audiometer instead?

Yes. Ship it to our Cincinnati-area facility. If it needs a long repair, a free loaner is available.
