On-Site Calibration

On-Site Audiometer Calibration for Pittsburgh Employers

Our technician makes the run from Blue Ash to western Pennsylvania with the reference equipment on board. Your audiometers are calibrated to ANSI S3.6 in your building, and the booth is measured to ANSI S3.1 before we pack up.

Why Pittsburgh programs call us

Pittsburgh built its name on steel, and the noise followed. Mills, foundries, and rolling operations along the three rivers still run, and the region has added specialty metals, forging, and fabrication shops that feed aerospace and energy customers. Hospitals and health systems employ thousands of people, and the robotics and autonomous vehicle companies near the universities run test floors and machine shops of their own.

Each of those employers may have a hearing conservation program, and each program depends on an audiometer whose calibration can be shown on paper.

The trip from Blue Ash

The technician leaves our shop at 6941 Cornell Road, Suite B, Blue Ash, Ohio 45242 and drives about four and a half hours east. Because the drive is real, we plan Pittsburgh as a scheduled trip rather than a same-week call. We confirm the date with you, group nearby sites into the same run, and arrive with everything needed to finish at your instrument.

Call the office line, 513-891-0868, and we will work out which week fits your site and any others close to it.

What the instrument must meet

OSHA 29 CFR 1910.95(h) points to ANSI S3.6 as the specification for audiometers used in hearing conservation programs. Pennsylvania employers in covered industries follow compliance-driven programs built on that standard, and an audiometer that has drifted out of calibration undermines every audiogram taken on it.

  • Before each day of testing, your staff runs the functional check.
  • At least once a year, an acoustic calibration check confirms output levels.
  • At least every two years, an exhaustive calibration tests the full instrument.

Measuring the booth at the same stop

Mill and plant clinics often sit close to loud production space, and a booth that was quiet when installed can creep up over the years. We measure sound levels inside the booth to ANSI S3.1 while we are there. The results appear as the Room Acoustics Level Test section on your audiometer certificate, which keeps the instrument and the room in one record.

Other equipment that can come off the same list

An occupational health room usually holds more than an audiometer. If your due dates line up, we can handle these on the same trip.

  • Spirometers, along with the 3 L syringes used to verify them.
  • Breath alcohol testers. We calibrate them and train technicians only. Foster does not sell or perform drug or alcohol testing.
  • Vision testers and EKG machines.

Allegheny County and the surrounding region

Our route covers Allegheny, Westmoreland, Washington, Butler, Beaver, Armstrong, and Fayette counties. Typical stops include Cranberry Township, Monroeville, Bethel Park, Canonsburg, McKees Rocks, Carnegie, Coraopolis, Wilkinsburg, Washington, Greensburg, Butler, and Beaver Falls. If your site is somewhere else in the Pittsburgh region, ask and we will tell you how it fits the route.

When shipping is the easier path

A single audiometer does not always justify a long drive. Mail-in calibration to our Cincinnati-area bench is always available, and a free loaner can cover your testing if the unit needs an extended repair. The certificate is the same ANSI S3.6 document either way.

If you already schedule hearing testing for your workforce, our general hearing testing page explains how mobile clinics work.

Common questions

Do you calibrate a single audiometer in Pittsburgh?

Yes, though a single unit is often easier to mail in. Sites with several audiometers or nearby locations make the drive worthwhile.

Which standard do you calibrate to?

ANSI S3.6 for the audiometer and ANSI S3.1 for booth sound levels, in line with OSHA 29 CFR 1910.95(h).

Can you calibrate audiometers in a steel or metals plant clinic?

Yes. We work at the instrument wherever it sits, and we measure the booth or quiet room as well.

Does the booth result appear on its own certificate?

No. It prints as the Room Acoustics Level Test section on the audiometer certificate.

Do you sell or perform drug or alcohol testing?

No. We calibrate breath alcohol testers and train technicians. We do not sell or perform drug or alcohol testing.

What if my audiometer needs a long repair?

We lend a free loaner so your testing program keeps running while the unit is out.
