On-Site Calibration

Audiometer Calibration for South Bend and Elkhart County

South Bend and Elkhart are about four hours from our Blue Ash shop. We make the trip with reference equipment, calibrate audiometers to ANSI S3.6, and measure booth levels to ANSI S3.1 at your site.

Where the technician is coming from

Our shop is at 6941 Cornell Road, Suite B, Blue Ash, Ohio 45242. From there the run to South Bend takes about four hours, and Elkhart County is a short hop beyond. We schedule the trip with you in advance and plan stops that are close together so one drive can serve several employers.

The office line is 513-891-0868.

Many RV and boat employers run seasonal peaks, with production ramping hard in spring. We try to book calibration in the quieter months so the audiometer is ready before enrollment testing gets busy.

RVs, boats, and the plants behind them

Elkhart County calls itself the recreational vehicle capital of the world, and the claim rests on real production volume. Coach assembly, cabinet shops, wood and aluminum framing, fiberglass lamination, and component makers fill industrial parks from Elkhart to Goshen and Nappanee. Boat builders operate in the same corridor. Saws, routers, air tools, and compressors run all day.

South Bend and Mishawaka add machining, aerospace parts, and food manufacturing. All of those settings expose workers to noise that justifies a hearing conservation program.

Northern Indiana also holds a large supplier base for axles, chassis, windows, and furniture that moves through the RV plants. Smaller shops in that chain often have one portable audiometer and no in-house calibration capability.

What goes into each calibration

OSHA 29 CFR 1910.95(h) refers audiometer accuracy to ANSI S3.6. We test each instrument against that specification.

  • Output level at each frequency.
  • Frequency accuracy and distortion.
  • Attenuator linearity.
  • Certificate and next due date.

Why dates matter

An acoustic check is due at least yearly and an exhaustive calibration at least every two years. Employers in compliance-driven programs keep those dates because a lapse can call every audiogram since the due date into question. We track them and send a reminder. Your staff handles the daily functional check.

Booth measurement

Manufacturers in the RV corridor often place their testing booth inside a plant office. Ambient noise leaks through such spaces. We measure the sound levels inside to ANSI S3.1 and report the result as the Room Acoustics Level Test section on your audiometer certificate.

St. Joseph, Elkhart, and the counties around them

We cover St. Joseph, Elkhart, Marshall, LaPorte, Kosciusko, Starke, and Berrien counties. Typical stops include Mishawaka, Elkhart, Goshen, Granger, Osceola, Nappanee, Plymouth, Middlebury, Bremen, Niles, Michigan City, and La Porte. Because Elkhart, Goshen, and Middlebury sit so close together, a day in the area can reach several plants. Michigan City and La Porte sit to the west along the lake, and Niles lies just across the state line, so those employers can join a run when the date works.

Other instruments, one stop

Clinic rooms usually hold more than an audiometer.

A trip this long is a good time to clear every due date at once.

  • Spirometers and the 3 L syringes used to verify them.
  • Breath alcohol testers. We calibrate them and train technicians. Foster does not sell or perform drug or alcohol testing.
  • Vision testers and EKG machines.

Shipping, loaners, and hearing testing

A single audiometer can also be mailed to our Cincinnati-area bench. A free loaner is available during long repairs. If you use mobile clinics for employees, see our hearing testing page.

Common questions

Do you serve Elkhart as well as South Bend?

Yes. Elkhart, Goshen, and Mishawaka are regular stops on the same route.

Can you calibrate audiometers in an RV plant?

Yes. We work wherever the instrument sits and we measure the booth or quiet room too.

What standard do you calibrate to?

ANSI S3.6 for the instrument, with the program tied to OSHA 29 CFR 1910.95(h).

Where does the booth result appear?

As the Room Acoustics Level Test section on the audiometer certificate, measured to ANSI S3.1.

Can spirometers and other instruments come along?

Yes. Spirometers, 3 L syringes, breath alcohol testers, vision testers, and EKG machines can be calibrated on the same visit.

Is there a loaner for repairs?

Yes. A free loaner covers longer repairs.
