On-Site Calibration

St. Louis Audiometer Calibration, Planned Around Batch Visits

St. Louis is about five and a half hours from Blue Ash. We batch visits, then calibrate each audiometer to ANSI S3.6 at your site and measure the booth to ANSI S3.1 on the same stop.

How batching works for St. Louis

The drive from 6941 Cornell Road, Suite B, Blue Ash, Ohio 45242 to St. Louis takes about five and a half hours. Because of that, we batch visits. We gather instruments, sites, and companies into a single trip with a date that suits everyone involved, then work through them in order.

If you have one audiometer, mailing it to our Cincinnati-area bench is the faster path. If you have many, or neighbors with the same need, call 513-891-0868 and we will plan the run.

Once enough sites have joined a run, we send each of them an approximate arrival window and the order of stops. Nothing is left to guesswork on the day.

What runs the region

The St. Louis area mixes heavy industries. Aerospace and defense assembly employ large workforces, automotive plants and their suppliers run on both sides of the river, and breweries operate canning and bottling lines. Chemical and materials plants line the Illinois side, and rail and barge terminals move cargo day and night.

Each of these settings brings noise exposure, and an audiometer tied to a hearing conservation program needs a calibration record that can be produced on request.

Metal finishing, foundry work, and stamping add impact noise, while packaging lines at food and beverage plants run in long continuous stretches. Hospital systems and university clinics around the city also operate audiometers for employee and student screening.

Our process at the instrument

OSHA 29 CFR 1910.95(h) ties audiometers to ANSI S3.6. We calibrate to it in four steps.

  • Check output levels at each frequency.
  • Check frequency and distortion.
  • Check attenuator linearity.
  • Issue the certificate and set a reminder.

Intervals the standard sets

The acoustic calibration check is due at least annually, and the exhaustive calibration at least every two years. A deviation of 15 dB or more at the annual check moves the exhaustive up. Your staff runs the daily functional check. Compliance-driven employers value having us keep the schedule.

Booth and quiet room levels

Brewery, chemical, and assembly clinics frequently sit near noisy production areas. We measure sound levels inside the booth to ANSI S3.1 and report the findings as the Room Acoustics Level Test section on the audiometer certificate.

Older buildings, common along the river, can add structural vibration and outside traffic noise to the mix. A measured booth level tells you whether the room still meets the needs of your program.

Both banks of the Mississippi

Our batch trips reach St. Louis, St. Charles, Jefferson, Franklin, Madison, St. Clair, and Monroe counties. Typical stops include Hazelwood, Earth City, Maryland Heights, Chesterfield, St. Charles, Florissant, Fenton, Wentzville, Granite City, Edwardsville, Belleville, and Alton. Illinois and Missouri employers can share the same trip. Wentzville and St. Charles sit on the western edge of the run, while Alton and Edwardsville anchor the north side of the Illinois bank, so the order of stops is planned to avoid backtracking across the bridges.

Add the rest of your instruments

A long trip is the right time to clear every due date.

  • Spirometers and 3 L syringes.
  • Breath alcohol testers. We calibrate them and train technicians. Foster does not sell or perform drug or alcohol testing.
  • Vision testers.
  • EKG machines.

Shipping and loaners

Mail-in calibration remains available for any audiometer, and a free loaner covers extensive repairs. If you use mobile clinics, see our hearing testing page.

Common questions

Why are St. Louis visits batched?

The drive is about five and a half hours each way, so we group instruments and sites into one trip.

Is mail-in better for one unit?

Usually. Shipping a single audiometer to Cincinnati is the faster path.

Do you cover the Illinois side of the river?

Yes. Granite City, Edwardsville, Belleville, and Alton are on the route.

Which standards do you use?

ANSI S3.6 for the audiometer and ANSI S3.1 for booth sound levels, tied to OSHA 1910.95(h).

Can other equipment be calibrated that trip?

Yes. Spirometers, 3 L syringes, breath alcohol testers, vision testers, and EKG machines can be included.

Is a loaner available?

Yes. A free loaner is provided during extensive repairs.
