What is the actual difference between calibration and a calibration check?
Calibration adjusts an instrument's output so it matches a known reference, and a calibration check only measures whether the instrument is still within tolerance without necessarily adjusting anything. On an audiometer, the daily biological check a technician runs before testing is a calibration check: it confirms the tones sound right and the attenuator behaves as expected, but it does not recalibrate anything and does not use calibrated test equipment. Why does this terminology confusion cause audit problems?
